Call Out Liberty Counsel's Assault on LGBTQ Dignity

A white Christian Nationalist legal group called Liberty Counsel is using a Pride flag lawsuit in Los Angeles to advance a strategy they have been running for over thirty years: chip away at LGBTQ rights one court case at a time, until those chips become precedents, and those precedents reach the Supreme Court.
Liberty Counsel represented Kim Davis. They filed a brief urging the Supreme Court to uphold the law criminalizing gay sex. The Southern Poverty Law Center designates them a hate group.
The pride flag lawsuit is another test case. If a federal court rules that the very sight of a Pride flag is a religious burden on a Christian employee, that ruling will have implications for every workplace, public space, and corner of life where LGBTQ people exist. That's everywhere.
What happens next depends on whether people of faith say something.
Jesus saved his harshest words for religious authorities who used the law to shut people out, calling them wolves and a brood of vipers. He called love the greatest commandment, and he meant that without exception. Liberty Counsel is doing the opposite in his name.
Christians have a responsibility right now to bear witness. To say clearly and publicly: Liberty Counsel does not speak for us.
Add your name. Make your witness known.
Petition Text:
To: Liberty Counsel
We are writing to you as Christians. Not to affirm your work, but to reject it. Including your latest lawsuit, in which you are arguing in federal court that a man's Christian beliefs are violated by having to walk past a Pride flag on his way into work.
For over thirty years, your organization has used the courts to chip away at the rights of our LGBTQ neighbors. Through one case at a time, you've methodically built precedents. You represented Kim Davis. You filed a brief urging the Supreme Court to uphold the law criminalizing gay sex.
Your Facebook banner once highlighted a passage in the Bible calling for gay men to be put to death. For these reasons, the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated you a hate group.
Your latest test case is the Pride flag lawsuit in Los Angeles. As you're aware, if a federal court rules that the very sight of a Pride flag is a religious burden on a Christian employee, that ruling will have implications for every workplace, public space, and corner of life where LGBTQ people exist. That is everywhere and in every space.
Jesus saved his harshest words for the religious authorities who used the law to shut people out, calling them wolves and a brood of vipers. He called love the greatest commandment, and he meant that without exception.
You are doing the opposite in his name.
We are bearing witness. We are saying so clearly and publicly, to you and to everyone watching: Liberty Counsel does not speak for Christianity.
We will not be silent while you claim otherwise. We urge you in the strongest terms to drop this lawsuit and to honor our shared commandment to love, not demean or exclude, our LGBTQ neighbors.
Thank you.
